Hello, all. My name is Greg Silver. I am a senior and my
major is Communication. I am a former accounting major. I decided to switch to Communication
in the Spring 2016 semester as I was tired of the repetitive nature of
accounting. With my communication major, I am able to examine a vast area of
the social sciences that have always interested me.
But enough about school. First, I think it’s important to
know my music tastes. Music is a big part in my life, as I play it in the
background every chance I get. I am a huge fan of hip hop, but mostly just rap.
The rap that interests me the most is the kind that tells a story or informs
the audience of something they may not have known before. My favorite rapper of
all time is Lupe Fiasco, but I must say that J. Cole is quickly catching up to
him. (J. Cole went double platinum with no features). Lupe Fiasco and J. Cole
not only rap intelligently, but also with such great emotion that you feel what
they are feeling in most of their songs. I can listen to rappers like them all
day long and never get tired of it.
The next biggest thing to know about me is my love for
sports. I love OU football, but OU basketball more. I am one of a few people
who can say this, and I’m proud of that. I have attended most of the OU
basketball home games since I have been a student. Last year was one of the
most fun years for me, as OU made the NCAA Final Four. (We’re not going to talk
about what happened to them when they got there). It was especially cool
because I was able to see the whole process that led up to that NCAA Final Four
run. That is something that I will forever cherish.
Those are the main points about me and I hope to get to know
you all!

Good day Greg,
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to read your introduction and learn about your passion for OU's basketball team. I am a Senior and like sports, but can honestly say that I have never attended an OU basketball game. The football, on the other hand, is a different story. What career path do you want to follow upon graduating? The reason I am asking, is because I am also a COMM Major student.
Hey, Don't dis your hat, it looks fun. It is pretty awesome that you support the college's team as much as you do. Since I am not local I have not gone to an event yet, but I would like to do so. Sports are always exciting live(most sports at least). How did the change in your major affect the time frame for graduation?
ReplyDeleteI hope you can weave your love of rap into this class, Greg: that would be so great! One of the storytelling styles that I suggest to people is something like Epic Rap Battles ... and I don't know if you'd be interested in this or not, but through his collaboration with Maati Baani (this video: Heal the World), I started listening to this amazing kid named Sparsh Shah who does Eminem covers: wow! If you're curious, here's his YouTube Channel: Eminem - "Not Afraid". Music can definitely be a part of this class, so maybe you dream up some good ways to make that happen! :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Greg!! It Is so cool that you are a Communication major too!! It is likely we have had classes together and id not even know it!
ReplyDeleteI like that you talked about your music tastes. Music is such an important part of my life too! I really feel like knowing what type of music people listen to gives you great insight to who they are!!
Personally, I do not listen to rap. I am more of an alternative or indie kind of girl, but my best friend loves J. Cole and is always talking about his music. Cool introduction! I look forward to reading your stories!
Greg, its awesome to hear how you enjoy the university to much. I am the same way, although I'm a senior, I cherish the time I have been here, and what I have been able to do for the University. I was in the Pride of Oklahoma, and was able to experience playing for the fans and Players of the University of Oklahoma Sooner football team and basket ball team. It's an amazing experience for sure.
ReplyDeleteHi Greg, that’s awesome that you’re such a huge OU basketball fan! I’m more of a football girl myself but I still love to watch basketball as well! Last year was a crazy good year for OU regardless of that final game. I loved to watch Buddy, he was such a great player. Doesn’t seem like this year will be quite as good without those senior but still love to watch! Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI am also a senior and hopefully graduating this May! A major in Accounting and Communications seem like there would be different from each other. Did you have to take a lot more classes when switching between the two majors? Music definitely is a way for individuals to express their selves and music is something that everyone can understand or relate to. I do love watching sports as well!
ReplyDeleteHello Greg! It is nice meeting you. I could never be an accounting major because I cannot do math for the life of me. Even simple math is hard. I love that you love music. It is also a big part of my life. I also liked your picture and your hat! I do not think it is stupid as you said.
ReplyDeleteHi Greg! I’m so glad that you were able to find a new major that you enjoyed a lot more. A lot of people think that changing majors is not a good thing, but it’s important to finding out what you really like—something you can’t do unless you test the waters! Since you’re a senior but changed your major, will you be graduating this year or will you be staying at OU for a while longer?
ReplyDeleteHi, Greg! It’s been a while since I’ve head Lupe Fiasco (last song was probably “Superstar”), but J. Cole is amazing. I think my favorite album from him is Born Sinner! And you’re completely right about them. I love the way they rap and how they interweave words to create powerful messages and meanings. Anyway, I’m glad you switched into a major that you’re interested in, and good luck with the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you Greg! Seems like I am the only person that isn't into the hip-hop craze like everyone else my age is. You sound like a bunch of my friends because they can listen to rap all day but I get tired of it after a few songs. Our taste in music doesn't really align but our love for OU sports do! I grew up here in Norman so I've been going to 8-12 games a year. I am happy to see that you have chosen a major that truly interests you! Good luck in your classes this semester.
ReplyDeleteGreg, it is great to get to know you. I like your major choice, I almost chose it as well and know plenty of other people who are with you in that major. I like that you like OU basketball more than football, though I do not stand with you on that, I like football more, it is cool to see people who fully support the basketball team. Although I do not like rap either, I do enjoy listening to Lupe Fiasco, because of the way he talks about social issues in his raps. It was great to get meet you!
ReplyDeleteGreg, that's awesome that you changed your major to further your studies! That's cool that you like rap! It's not my favorite kind of music but on the occasion I'll listen to it. I love love love OU football. I wish I had gotten more into OU basketball. I only went to 2 or 3 games my whole college career. I did watch all of their playoffs last year. Can we get Buddy back? I actually graduated with Jordan Woodard, so that's kind of cool. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Greg!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! It's great that you have really figured out what you want to do in college, and what you hope to become! That really is a challenge. I also really love music! Are you going to any concerts this semester? I read that you love hip hop and rap! Are you going to Chance the Rapper or The Weeknd? Those are two concerts that I am dying to go to, but with my schedule, won't be able to attend as my finals week will be super hard! I love that you are passionate about sports, and I am so excited for football season next year! It's nice to meet you! I look forward to learning more about you and read your posts!
Hi Greg! I think that your music taste is very unique. I appreciate rap, but not as much as you! I think that it is great that you are able to listen to the lyrics and music and understand what the artist is trying to get across! Pretty neat that you are so into OU sports. I am more of a football fan, but basketball is great too! It was awesome seeing the basketball team do great last year... except for the final game!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Greg!
Greg, it is very nice to meet you! My mom is an accountant and I can definitely understand your reasoning. It is really cool that you are into rap. I am a music major here and although most of the music I play is classically based, I enjoy all genres! Also, I agree let's not talk about what happened at the final four, haha. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Greg! That’s awesome that you switched your major to one that you enjoy more! I know of a couple of people that don’t like theirs, but keep doing it. I myself am a J. Cole fan! I love your reasoning for why you like him. Most people overlook details like that when it comes to rap. How cool that you’ve gone to so many basketball games! I am jealous! Haha. I hope you’re having a good semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Greg,
ReplyDeleteI am also a Communication major at OU so that was super cool to read. I think you made a good choice. It took me till my sophomore year to figure out what major I wanted to stick with and I am glad it was Communication. Also I think it is awesome that you enjoy OU sports so much. This is my first semester so I am still learning all about OU but so far it is a pretty cool school.
Hi Greg, Its nice to meet you! I think it is cool that you have such a love for music! I don't listen to much rap but I will check out the rapper you mentioned! I hope you are enjoying your switch to communication! I completely agree that communication-based majors allow you to explore different areas! I hope you are having a good end to your semester!
ReplyDeleteIt’s interesting that you point out music taste as being important to know about a person, because I completely agree—it can tell you a lot about a person’s background or personality. I’ll definitely pass your recommendations on to my sister, because she’s into the same kind of music as you. It’s awesome that you’ve gotten to go to so many of the OU basketball games, too. Good luck with graduation!
ReplyDeleteHi Greg, nice to meet you! I think you are the only introduction I have not read. Your love for music is very cool to read about. I wish I played an instrument. Do you like Kendrics new album? I only really liked a few but maybe it will grow on me. Sooners should be good this year with the addition of Young. Anyways, nice to meet you!
